Printer Repair Can Be Close Call
Just when you have an important document that needs to be printed right away, you discover you are having printer problems and it seems the more you try to get it working, the worse the problem get. When you have exhausted all your tricks, sometimes there’s just nothing else to do but call in the professionals for printer repair.
And, even at that, if you’re like most computer users, you’ll come back, open up that cover one more time, test the connections, press the reset button, jiggle the ink cartridge, search the paper path for a jam, check out every area to try to find a clue. Then you’ll sit down and open up the printer repairs computer software to diagnose the problem or just try printing again.
These days, with the cost of new printers so low, it can be a tough choice. Is it best just to get a new printer? Or is it worth trying for printer repair? And, what if you pay for service but then they tell you there’s no hope. Money down the drain and no still no printer.
Much of the decision about whether to call for repair or not will come down to how much you spent on your printer in the first place. If you spent under $100 for it to begin with then you will probably do just as well to buy a new one.
However, if you have a low cost, but you find yourself with a stockpile of ink for it, and those print cartriges don’t fit any models of printers on the market, may it makes sense to try to figure out what has gone wrong, and see if printer replacement parts might solve your problem and save your ink stash.
If you have a more expensive printer, either one that does high-end color reproductions, or one that features scanning and faxing functions in addition to printing, or a laser printer as opposed to an inkjet, then computer printer repairs will probably make more sense in that instance.
Before laying out money on printer repair services, be sure to check what kind of warranty coverage you have, and see if it can be repaired or replace under the warranty. Even if you are outside of your warranty coverage, it can’t hurt to get in touch with the company to see what they can do for you. There are instances reported where the company is so eager to be sure you continue buying their print cartriges that they may go ahead and replace your printer.
If you are not lucky enough for that, then you will want to check with the printer vendor for a listing of authorized repair services in your area. If no one is authorized in your area, then it is probably best to send the printer to the printer vendor for repair, to be sure the repairs are done according to printer vendor specifications.
When it comes down to having to make a choice between printer repair or simply hauling the old printer out to the dumpster and starting fresh with a new machine, at least take time to know the best approach for your particular printer by doing some basic research.
