Computer Aided Design has become the standard in many of the construction industries. Engineers, architects and surveyors all depend on some type of CAD program for their work. Many have just picked up the CAD programs as they have gone along and may be missing many time saving and important features that are now available. AutoCAD and Microstation are two of the most widely used CAD programs. Both have many shortcuts that can make the work you do easier. Programs are usually updated on an annual basis and each release has more features built into the program. If you learn to use those feature, they can make drastic cuts in the amount of time spent on a project.

That shortcut may have been there all along or it may be one of the features that were added in the newest release. We miss out on many of those new features because we get the new release and try to figure out how to do what we have always done rather than take time to do what we have always done.

While you may not think that you have the time to spend on CAD courses, there are many different types of courses available. Taking a CAD course does not mean that you are going to have to enroll in a course in your local community college.

One option is online courses. These courses allow you to learn about the program at your own pace. There is no need to make a commitment to one time slot each week, you can use down time in your work to learn more about the CAD program. Work at your own pace and review as necessary. Learn how to use a CAD program more efficiently to produce a better product. If you do not want to take an online course, then look for one or two day cad training seminars, where you get to learn hands on and ask your questions.

Your company will spend several thousand dollars on CAD programs this year, yet you will not use even half of the programs potential. You will probably use less than half of the potential. Why waste money on purchasing a program that you are not going to use to its full potential. Learn to use the program and you can save your clients money.

In the current economy, the job is going to go to the firm that can get the job done at the lowest cost. If you are able to do design and layout in a more efficient manner, you will be able to pass that savings on to your clients. If you learn the shortcuts for your CAD program, then you can do more jobs in a shorter amount of time.
